Woman immolates self in Memnagar

AHMEDABAD: A 46-year-old woman allegedly set herself on fire at her home in

Memnagar

on Monday evening and was declared dead on the spot. Police have started questioning relatives to ascertain the reason for her extreme step.

Ghatlodia police said

, 46, a resident of Avadh Apartment, poured kerosene on herself in the bathroom at her residence and set herself on fire at around 6.15pm on Monday. Neighbours informed her husband Kalpesh Patel, after which he arrived at the spot. By the time she was rescued, she had died from the burns.

“Primary investigation revealed that Patel worked with

ADC Bank

as a clerk and had been married for 27 years. The couple’s son and daughter are married. There was a domestic feud under way between the couple this may have driven her to suicide,” said a police investigator.

They added that the postmortem will ascertain the cause of death even as questioning of the relatives began on Tuesday. tnn
