Woman attempts suicide
AHMEDABAD: It was a love affair that went awry for a 27-year old woman from Isanpur. Rekha had dreamt of marriage again after two unsuccessful marriages and a love affair. However, when her lover bowed to family pressure and turned her away, she tried to end her life in public on Sunday evening. She had earlier filed a complaint of rape against her lover.
According to Ellisbridge police officials, they got a call about a woman being found unconscious behind Town Hall at 7.30 pm.

She was immediately rushed to VS Hospital where she was admitted to the women's ward with a suspected case of pregnancy. According to medical officials, she will be kept under observation for the next 24 hours.
"We came to know that she is a resident of Isanpur, who had lodged a complaint against her lover for raping her with Vejalpur police a month back. She said in her statement with us that she was taken aback as she was not allowed to meet Shailesh Pandya, her lover, in the metropolitan court on Sunday where he was produced for his bail application," said BK Vaghela, sub-inspector of Ellisbridge police station.
Police officials said that two of the woman's marriages had ended in divorce. She had then registered her name with a marriage bureau in Bapunagar in October 2007. Through the bureau she came in contact with Shailesh Pandya.
"They started dating. As Shailesh had a business in Mumbai, he took her there for 20 days and had a physical relationship. But when they returned to Ahmedabad, Pandya's family refused to accept her," said RP Bhamat, sub-inspector of Vejalpur police station.
