Will enter politics sooner or later: Gujarati film actor, singer Vikram Thakor
Gandhinagar: Prominent Gujarati film actor and singer Vikram Thakor announced his intention to join politics in the future, but remained non-committal about which political party he will join.Speaking at the ‘Bhavani Dham Sankalp Yatra' organised by the Gujarat Kshatriya Thakor Sena at Ambaji in north Gujarat, Thakor said, "I will join politics sooner or later." His statement caused political ripples, given his popularity and the clout of the Kshatriya Thakor community in parts of the state, especially in north Gujarat. Following Thakor's statement, there was a great deal of enthusiasm among his supporters.
Speaking to a large gathering that was part of the yatra from Kheralu to Ambaji, Thakor said, "I have always been among the people, and even as an artist, I served them." He added, "Whenever I attend major events, I am asked whether I will take a ticket (to contest elections). But if not today, then tomorrow, I will definitely join politics." Thakor, 41, hails from Fatehpura village in Gandhinagar district and belongs to the Kshatriya Thakor community, which has a significant presence in districts of north Gujarat such as Mehsana, Patan, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, and Gandhinagar, along with parts of Ahmedabad. Prominent Thakor community leaders from BJP include MLA Alpesh Thakor, former state minister Dilip Thakor, and MLA Swarupji Thakor. Notable Congress leaders from the community include a former GPCC president and MP, Jagdish Thakor, and the sitting Banaskantha MP, Geniben Thakor. There was speculation that Vikram Thakor could join either Congress or AAP, given the fact that community leaders have criticized the ruling BJP govt in the past. However, key sources claimed that he is in touch with BJP leaders and may consider joining BJP, like several other Gujarati movie actors and artists have in the past. Despite several attempts, Vikram Thakor could not be reached for comment.
