When senior babus had to rush!

Ahmedabad: Deputy secretaries of various departments were seen running in the officer’s gallery of the state assembly on Saturday, making frantic calls to secretaries and department heads! The junior officers had to get out of the assembly and call their seniors after the speaker, Shankar Chaudhary, warned the officials that the supplementary demands of their respective departments would not be cleared if the senior officers were not present in the assembly.During the discussion on the supplementary demands in the state assembly on Saturday, after finance minister Kanu Desai moved supplementary demands, Chaudhary asked him to ensure that all the department heads are present in the house.“The officers have to take down the notes of their respective departments and forward the issues raised by the MLAs during the debate to the finance minister. The presence of deputy secretaries in the house will not be permitted. If the heads of the department are not present, the budget of their supplementary demands will not be taken up for voting and hence will not be cleared.” Immediately, the deputy secretaries went out of the house and made calls to their department heads and within the next 20 minutes all the seniors were seen seated in the first row in the officers’ gallery in the assembly. tnn
