VHP men seize mini-truck laden with beef
AHMEDABAD: A mini truck entering the city with beef was caught by voluntary organizations who informed the city police about the illegal ferrying of beef meat. Officials have arrested two men with the stock and have started the investigation about the source the stock and the sender.
According to Shahibaug police officials, a group of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) members were on watch near Duffnala on Thursday morning when they saw a truck covered with blue tarpaulin.

On the basis of suspicion, the group members tried to stop the truck but it did not stop and fled in direction of Shahibaug underbridge.
"The members informed police and other members who forced the driver to stop the truck. Two men tried to flee from the truck but they were later nabbed by police. The duo was identified as Mohammed Yakub Shaikh, 45, and Mohammed Sabir Shaikh, 32, both residents of Vatva. We informed the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and forensic science laboratory officials about the find and have sought their opinion to identify the meat seized," said a Shahibaug police official.
The activists however said that the stock is more than 2000 kg and police underplayed the case. "It was we who had to keep vigil to seize the offenders. While a notification is in effect not to slaughter cows in the state, it is not adhered to. In past two months, it is more of a public action and not police vigil that have got offenders in," said a VHP member involved in the operation.
