Ahmedabad: For all those planetary buffs, here are web tools developed by Space Applications Centre (SAC) which will take you to the less explored corners of Moon and Mars in three dimension for the first time.

On the SAC's website under the planetary sciences, special images clicked from Chandrayaan 1 and Mars Colour Camera on Mangalyaan have been meticulously weaved to give a three dimensional tour of the two planetary bodies. One can even click craters and mounds on Mars or Moon to know their names and even information related to their depths.

The interactive section is called the Visualisation of Earth Observation Data and Archival System (VEDAS).

Another interesting tool that pops up on the new upgraded SAC website is the RAPID weather monitoring module, which is an interactive website developed to provide meteorological data and animation in real time.

"If you were to watch monsoon activity you can chose the satellite and the number of frames per second to watch an animation of the cloud movement of the present monsoon activity," says a senior Isro official.

The whole new SAC website is being upgraded since June 17. "We want to make our website more appealing for students and even amateur astronomers. Soon you will see more interactive sections on the website," adds the Isro official.
