AHMEDABAD: From the story of Asha Bhil to the boisterous mill culture of Ahmedabad, visitors to Sewani Haveli in Dhalni pol for the first 'Ashawal Walk' will be introduced to unfolding of six centuries of untold history on Sunday.
The specialized heritage walk, which is being brought to our readers under the TOI-Heritage walk series, is being developed by French Haveli, SEWA foundation and Mahila Housing Trust.
Girish Gupta will conduct the walk.
Before the walk begins, visitors will get a chance to immerse themselves in the renditions by Ustad Shaukat Hussain Khan (Niyazi), who will lay out the rich and heavy brocade of his Agra-Atrauli Gharana at Sewa ni haveli. The finery of his gharana is like the pomp of a court: dignity gilded with affluence; such is the effect of his tradition's insistence on 'wazandar gayaki' and deftness of delivery.
Ustad Shaukat is the sole custodian of the gharana in Gujarat.
Rajiv Patel, founder of the Hamari Virasat initiative says, "There are some untold legends apart from the 'Kutte pe sassa…' story, the founding fable of Ahmedabad, that visitors will be told during the walk."
