Ahmedabad: A team of 12 officials and experts from the

US Food and Drug Administration

(

USFDA

) will visit the state from May 17 to 19. The team will meet officials of

Gujarat

Food and Drugs Control Administration (FDCA) to apprise them of the changes in regulations and the challenges that may lie ahead.
“Some of the issues to be discussed with the team are drug inspection lifecycle, choosing a site for production, planning, implementation, reporting, assessment, regulatory action, and case studies,” said an official. The team is likely to meet the Gujarat health minister,

Rushikesh Patel

, and ACS (health)

Manoj Aggarwal

among others. The visit is important due to the high share of exports of various drugs from Gujarat-based manufacturers to the American market. “In 2010, the officials from USFDA had visited Gujarat for the first time,” said an official. “Afterwards, FDCA Gujarat-USFDA Regulatory Forum was established under which events were organized for knowledge-sharing, training, and capacity building.”
