AHMEDABAD: For a year, a woman and her lover cooked meals in a kitchen beneath which they had allegedly buried her husband after murdering him.
A tip-off about the buried body led the crime branch to excavate the kitchen floor of a Sarkhej house, solving the year-old murder.
The home had been shared by the victim and his wife, police said on Wednesday.
According to police, the crime branch received the tip-off about Mohammed Israil Akbarali Ansari — alias Sameer Bihari — who had gone missing a year ago. The crime branch learned that Ansari had been murdered by his wife Ruby and her lover, Imran Vaghela.
Investigators detained Vaghela and during questioning, he confessed to the murder and led police to the site of the burial. "In the presence of an executive magistrate, remains such as bones, tissues, and hair were recovered," the crime branch stated in an official release.
Forensic and DNA tests are being conducted to confirm the identity of the deceased.
Police said that the deceased, a mason from Bihar's Siwan district, had been living with his wife Ruby and two children at Ahmedi Row House in Sarkhej for five years.
Police said Vaghela and Ruby were in an illicit relationship.
"The deceased used to beat his wife and became an obstacle in their affair. Hence, they conspired to kill him," an officer said.
The accused allegedly slit the victim's throat with a knife.
To dispose of the body, they buried it under the kitchen platform, sealing it with cement and tiles. Ruby and Vaghela remained in the same house and used the same kitchen for a year, said an officer.
Vaghela has been arrested and will be produced in court for remand. Ruby has been arrested too.
Late on Wednesday evening, the crime branch arrested Mohsin Pathan, 20, Rahim Shaikh, 22, both from Fatehwadi, in connection with the case.
