"Soon after the boys parents raised an alarm, a search operation was conducted till late on Sunday, but the children could not be located," said an AFES official.
"We learnt that the victims were Ravi Dantani,13, and Ashish Dantani,10, both residents of slum area in Ranip. Their family members told us that the boys had participated in Hanuman Jayanti celebrations and subsequent procession on Sunday night organised by a temple near their residence," said a Sabarmati police station official.
"The procession got over near Keshavbaug. We believe that after the celebration, the kids might have jumped into the river for a bath. The boys' bodies had vermillion colour on it. This suggests that they did not get the time to clean themselves before they drowned. We are probing the case further to know what exactly preceded their death. The postmortem report will provide us with more information on the cause of death," he added.
