Two elderly men knifed in attempt to steal goat

Ahmedabad: Three men attacked two elderly men with knives between Tapovan Circle and Visat Circle on Wednesday in an attempt to steal an unusual prize — a goat — according to a complaint filed at Chandkheda police station on Sunday.
Jesing Jhala, 67, a resident of Vishnunagar Society in Chandkheda, stated that he had bought the goat, of the Beetal breed, from Bhatinda in Punjab as he liked goat’s milk. He had left it to mate at a farm in Por village in Gandhinagar.
Jhala said the attempted robbery took place on the afternoon of September 27 when he and a relative, Ramesh Rathod, 68, had gone to the farm and to bring the goat back. Rathod was driving the autorickshaw.
Jhala noticed that three men on a motorcycle were pursuing them and constantly abusing them. He said he told the three the animal was their pet and they were taking it home. When the autorickshaw turned towards Visat Circle from Tapovan Circle, the men forced it to stop near an automobile showroom.
One of them dragged Rathod out and began assaulting him. When Rathod fought back, one of them slashed him multiple times with a knife. The three also smashed the autorickshaw’s windscreen and then attacked Jhala. They tried to snatch the goat from Jhala, but he held on to it despite being injured. Passersby rushed to help Jhala and Rathod and on seeing this the three men fled on their motorcycle.
