TV campaign for Naam Gum Jayega runs into controversy

VADODARA: The advertising campaign in the city for a television serial has run into major trouble after a hoarding of the serial was torn by unidentified persons on Thursday.

<div class="section1"><div class="Normal">VADODARA: The advertising campaign in the city for a television serial has run into major trouble after a hoarding of the serial was torn by unidentified persons on Thursday.<br /><br />Following the incident those handling the advertising campaign have begun the process of withdrawing the ads of the serial from hoardings here.<br /><br />The advertising campaign was for Sony Television’s serial <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">Naam Gum Jayega</span>.

The billboard showed photographs of a Hindu girl along with that of a Burkha-clad girl, and asks the readers if they were willing to change their religion.<br /><br />Sources said that this theme was used for the campaign as the serial revolved around the lives to two girls who get exchanged by mistake at birth and grow up with parents of different religion.<br /><br />The girl born in a Hindu family was brought up by a Muslim family and practised that religion and vice versa. The campaign was meant to indicate the theme of the serial.<br /><br />Unidentified persons, however, tore the hoarding made from synthetic material sometime on Thursday near Aradhana cinema.<br /><br />While rumours attributed the incident to the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), functionaries of the organisation, however, denied any involvement.<br /><br />Said senior VHP functionary Ajay Joshi, “This has not been done by our organisation. We are in no way involved with the tearing of the hoarding.�<br /><br />Meanwhile, no complaint regarding the incident has been filed with the city police.<br /><br />Senior officers of the city police said that they had heard about the incident, but no formal offence has been filed with them in this regard.</div> </div>
