Travel agent offers cheap flight tickets, swindles ₹16L

Ahmedabad: A resident of Umreth in Anand district, Mukesh Doshi, on Saturday filed a case of cheating and breach of trust at Satellite police station against one Niral Parikh, the owner of a travel company called Gracious Holidays. Doshi alleged that he had been cheated out of Rs 16 lakh which he and his friends had paid for tickets to Canada.Doshi said that his friend Mitesh Shah told him that he had gone to Canada and Gracious Holidays had arranged for confirmed return tickets at a price lower than what other agents charged. As Doshi’s family wanted to go to Canada, he asked his son-in-law Vinar Shah to speak to Parikh. Shah later told him that Parikh said he would book return tickets at the rate of Rs 1 lakh per adult and Rs 80,000 per child. Doshi said he then paid Parikh Rs 7.51 lakh online, specifying travel dates of June 5 and June 26. On March 20, Parikh sent him the PNR number for the tickets.Doshi also referred Parikh to Bharat Thakkar and Shantilal Patel, who also booked tickets to Canada and paid Rs 5.75 lakh and Rs 2.7 lakh, respectively.Doshi said that on Friday, when they called Parikh, they found that his number was switched off. They later went to his residence at Shivani Apartments in Ambawadi and saw many people gathered there. He said he met Kaushal Patel, Chinu Thakkar, Bhargav Patel and others, all of whom had similarly been cheated by Parikh. tnn
