4-year-old boy hit by speeding car, dies

Ahmedabad: A four-year-old boy died after being hit by a speeding car near Vraj Garden residential society in the city's Shela area on Thursday. Vikas Bamania was the son of a migrant labourer working at a construction site in the society, where several houses are under construction.His grandfather, Pappu Bamania, stated in his FIR with Bopal police that the incident took place at around 11am on Thursday when his son Rajesh and daughter-in-law Gujali were working at a construction site in the society while the child was playing nearby on an internal road. A speeding driver hit Vikas while taking a turn. The boy was flung into the air from the impact and landed on the road, causing him to suffer severe injuries. Bamania alleged that the car driver stopped and saw that the boy had been greivously hurt, but fled the scene, the FIR states. Police have identified the driver as Akash Kedia, 30, a coal trader, who was in the society to oversee construction of his house. The parents and other locals rushed the boy to a nearby private hospital where he was given primary treatment and later, as his condition worsened, shifted to another private hospital where he died during treatment. Bamania told police that had moved to the city with Rajesh, Gujali and Vikas from Jhabua in Madhya Pradesh to work at construction sites. Bopal police registered a complaint under various sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rash driving, act endangering life or personal safety of others in which a person suffered grievous hurt and causing death by negligence along with offences under the Motor Vehicles Act against Kedia, 30.Inspector B T Gohil of Bopal police said that Kedia is a coal trader from the city's Memnagar area. "Kedia went to the site where his house was being constructed. He hit the child on his way back. The child died during treatment," said Gohil.
