AHMEDABAD: The Times of India T20 School Soccer started off with a bang in Ahmedabad on Sunday afternoon. In the first match of the meet, Navrachana International School Vadodara (NISV) rode on a 32nd minute strike by Harshil Shah to score a deserving 1-0 win over New Tulip International School. Left-out Pranay Khare received a long ball from the centre in a counterattack and he floated it for an unmarked Harshil prowling outside the penalty area.
The NISV medio did no mistake, trapped it beautifully and volleyed home the all-important goal of the match.
NISV came close to scoring twice in the space of two minutes when Kartikiyee Gurav's stinging right-footer from the top of the D was saved beautifully by the diving New Tulip custodian Raj Kotak. Kotak again came into the picture when he fisted another powerful shot by Justin Jose from the midfield.
New Tulip missed a play maker in the middle and it showed as they lacked direction in their attack. The only meaningful move by Krunal Ahuja and Utsav Sharma through the right flank was thwarted off with ease by the NISV defence.
Player of the match Harshil Shah of NISV later said: “It was a good beginning and very happy to get my name on the scoresheet but we missed a few opportunities as we are playing together as a team for the first time after a long gap. I am sure we will show better co-ordination in the next game.”
