AHMEDABAD: Three students from Gujarat have made their mark in the list of the country’s top 50 Candidates in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG 2019, the entrance exam for undergraduate medical courses the results of which were released on Wednesday.

In the NEET All India Result 2019 declared by the National Testing Agency, three students from Gujarat – Ravi Makhija, Harshvi Jobanputra and Aman Agarwal have ranked 14, 18 and 48 respectively.

“The overall merit score has risen this time, making competition tougher.” said a senior government official.

Out of the 75,889 students from Gujarat who appeared for the medical entrance exam, 35,177 students have cleared it. In all, about 46.35% students have qualified from the state and the result has marginally improved in comparison to last year when it was 45.09%.

For the Gujarati medium students, 59,395 were registered — which is about 3.91% of the total number of students across India who appeared for NEET this year.

Ravi, a Gujarat state board candidate, scored 690 marks out of 720 and ranked 14 on the merit list. Harshvi, with 690 marks, ranked 18 in the list of top 50 candidates and ranked fourth in NEET’s list of top 20 female candidates. Yash Gandhi, a student of Shannen School, Fatehgunj, secured 67th place in the NEET All India Ranking, scoring 685 marks.

Like his parents, Anant Sanghvi of Vadodara, too wants to become a doctor. Anant, who secured NEET AIR 279 by scoring 668 marks out of 720 with 99.9797 percentile, is a student of Navrachana School, Sama. “My preference would be to go for surgery in neurology or cardiology.,” said Anant, whose father Dr Dilip Sanghvi is a MD (medicine) physician while mother Dr Preksha Sanghvi is ayurvedic doctor.

Rajkot-based candidates have also passed with flying colours. Gaurav Vadalia secured 681 marks while Shloka Thakkar secured 675 marks and Parth Bhorania secured 665 marks.

Of the 14,10,755 candidates who appeared the exam nationally, this year 7,97,042 students qualified, bringing the overall pass percentage to 56.49 percent. Nalin Khandelwal from Rajasthan is the all-India
