Threat to wife over talaq - Man and his brother arrested in domestic violence case

AHMEDABAD: Rakhial police on Wednesday arrested Mohammed Akil Ansari and his brother Mohammed Akram on a complaint filed by Akil's wife

Ansari, 35, under section 498 (a). Zainab,

who had converted to Islam from Christianity

, stated in her complaint that Akil had given her a `triple

talaq

' over the telephone.

Inspector of Rakhial police station A D Parmar said the alleged triple talaq was given about eight months ago. Hence police had registered an offence under sections of

domestic violence

and have granted him bail as the offence does not carry punishment of more than seven years imprisonment.

According to the complaint lodged by Zainab, she married Akil in 2004 after they had an affair.

“They first got their marriage registered in court and then had a nikah at a local masjid. Zainab and Akil have a daughter aged 11 and a son, have a daughter aged 11 aged 10,“ inspector Parmar said.

Zainab alleged in her complaint that her husband Akil, who runs an electronic shop in Vatva, was having an affair with a woman named Blosn som Vincent alias Zoya and lives with her in Vatva.

The complaint states that on Eid ul-Adha, Zainab's husband Akil and his brother, Akram, drove her out of the house and threatened her that if she does not divorce Akil, they will kill her.

“The woman has stated in the complaint that she does not approve of the triple talaq given to her by Akil on phone. We have arrested both Akil and Akram and have released them on bail. We are yet to arrest Blossom as she is also named as an accused in the complaint,“ Inspector Parmar said.
