Tensions escalate at GU over exhibition row

Ahmedabad: A day after members of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) staged a protest outside the Gujarat University (GU) police station opposing action against them, tensions continue to simmer on the university campus following a controversial exhibition that triggered clashes between rival student groups on Tuesday.The joint exhibition, organised by the university and Bharatiya Shodh Sansthan, was inaugurated on Feb 16 at the Atal Kalam Research Park. NSUI members alleged that the content of the exhibition was incomplete and misleading, accusing the university of promoting a specific ideological agenda. In protest, some activists removed and damaged several banners.
In response, members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a demonstration the same evening and met the vice-chancellor, demanding that a police complaint be lodged against those responsible. Acting on the representation, the university initiated steps to file a complaint against the NSUI members.Later on Monday night, ABVP activists allegedly entered the campus and removed banners put up by NSUI, further escalating the situation. Police personnel were deployed on campus to maintain law and order.With both ABVP and NSUI confronting each other over the issue, the atmosphere on campus remains tense, prompting concerns over possible further escalation.
