Raghav, a CBSE school student, is preparing for his class XII final exams. “I want to study computer science at IIT Bombay,” he said, adding that he will take the test again in April to improve his rank.

Across Gujarat, about 150 students have scored in the 99th percentile, those familiar with the field said. For Ahmedabad, the number is believed to be around 50.

About his preparations, Raghav said that he devoted an average of seven hours a day to study and took intermittent breaks. He refrained from using social media and took about 50 mock tests. He has earlier performed well in exams such as the National Talent Search Examination and Kishor Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana. Working with Google is Raghav’s dream job.

Kamal Somani, Raghav’s father and a GST department official, said Raghav was not allowed to eat out so he could stay in good health.

Aditya Trivedi from Ahmedabad, scored in the 99.94th percentile. “The chemistry paper needed a good memory and I found it a bit tough. I want to pursue a BTech in computer science,” he said. Ninad Shah, another youth from Ahmedabad, scored in the 99.79th percentile. “My score is good but I will surely take the exam again in April to improve my score,” he said.
