On Sunday, four madrassa students, Irfan's friends, were put through a second round of questioning by a joint team of Anti Terrorist Squad, Kolhapur police and Bharuch district police.
"Irfan had studied in the madrassa and the students, at least two of whom are from Kashmir, are being questioned by us. They knew Irfan, who was in the madrassa till December, 2005, before he disappeared mysteriously. Later, he was killed in an encounter with the police in Avantipur on May 30, 2006,"said deputy inspector general of Anti Terrorist Squad DG Vanzara.
Though Irfan's parents in Kolhapur have raised some doubts over the identity of the person, who police claim was Irfan, killed in J&K.
TOI spoke to Bharuch madrassa administrator, Maulana Surti, who confirmed: "Irfan was a student at our institute and had gone missing 22 days after Ramzan in 2005.
We waited for him for three days, after which we intimated his parents about his absence and terminated his admission according to our rules.

We informed his parents, but they did not respond."Bharuch district superintendent of police GS Malik added that the officials from Maharashtra came to Bharuch to inquire about Irfan's acquaintances - Mohmmad Mustafa, 23, Mohammad Zuber, 17, Mohammad Rafiq, 17 and Yasin Pagathani, 17 - and even questioned the students during the day.
