The times are changing and so are expectations. As the job market grows more competitive, young professionals find themselves trapped in the vicious circle of over ambitiousness which often leads to high stress levels, often affecting professional capabilities.

At times like these, it is vital to have a de-stressing hobby that helps one recharge one’s batteries after work.
Shayon Chakraborty, relationship officer with a leading investment banking firm for example, loves “dancing. It is a great physical exercise. Dance helps me express myself and reduce the work stress.”
Agrees Harsh Kavthekar, credit process executive with a bank. “I find music a great stress-buster.
“Being with nature, away from the mad rush of the city helps me de-stress, says Dr Parvindar Singh, interventional cardiologist of a heart institute. Singh prefers going on long drives in his two-seater sports car or kayaking on river Mahi whenever he has time.
There are some professionals who get to pursue their hobby just once a year, but they claim that’s enough. Some young professionals find trekking or mountaineering rejuvenating for the body and soul.

“Mountaineering is an obsession. The Himalayas keep calling and even a week’s mountaineering keeps me rejuvenated for a year,” says Dharmendra Rathod, development officer of an insurance company.
Architect Kabir Thakore, holds workshops to train college students during national theatre festivals. He says, “Theatre is a medium of expression for me and by doing these training sessions I get oxygen for the entire year.”
Pursuing a hobby sometimes adds to the professional performance of an individual. “I have a musical background. Playing guitar motivates me and enables me to perfom better in business,” says textile businessman Mayank Kapadia.
Like we said, a stress-busting hobby can go a long way in shaping your professional tomorrow.
