AHMEDABAD: A 22-year-old woman from the Nikol area of the city was on Tuesday mowed down by a
speeding truck
near Muthiya village on Sardar Patel Ring Road.
The deceased was identified as Vishwa Mukesh Patel, a resident of Suryam Flora bungalows in Nikol.
According to the FIR registered with
G Traffic police
, Patel was going towards Ranasan when the incident occurred.
Her uncle, Shailesh Patel, 52, who runs a screw manufacturing firm in Naroda GIDC, told police that he got a call at around 11am on Tuesday informing him that Patel had met with an
accident near Muthiya toll booth.
When Shailesh Patel got to the spot, he found Vishwa
dead
lying in a pool of blood. Eyewitnesses said the truck driver, who fled after the accident, had hit her scooter from behind when she slowed down ahead of the toll booth.
The rear wheel of truck crushed her and she died on the spot, said a police official of the G Traffic police station.
Police sent the body to Asarwa Civil Hospital and registered a case under Section 304-A (negligence causing death) of the IPC, and charges under the Motor Vehicles Act.
Hunt is on for the unidentified truck driver who has not yet been arrested, said police officials.
