AHMEDABAD: Ask Devendra Amin, a resident of Chandkheda, about mosquitoes and you would know the seriousness of the menace in his area. Two large open Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) plots behind Sukun society have gathered enough water which providing an open invitation for mosquitoes.
“Fogging activity is negligible in Chandkheda. Areas around Parshawnath metro city, Shrinath bungalows and societies within 2 kilometre radius of New CG Road are seeing a rise in fever cases and mosquito breeding places.
There is hardly any AMC surveillance in Chandkheda,” says Amin. In Ahmedabad several areas like Ranip, Chandlodiya, Shrinandnagar in Vejalpur are notorious for the high concentration of mosquitoes in the city. Places in the eastern part of the city are the next problematic areas for mosquitoes.
In Bopal the ongoing digging works to lay civic lines is proving to be a major problem. Many open plots have gathered both garbage and water pools that become into breeding ground for mosquitoes.
“Peripheral areas around Ahmedabad are the most affected due to mosquitoes. There is a lack of urban sub-health centres to follow up on malaria patients which have become a necessity here. Most cases are relapse cases because patients do not complete their 14-day medicine course. Active monitoring of water containers in residential areas, construction sites are a must in newly merged areas in the west zone,” admits an AMC health official.
