Ahmedabad: In a bid to curb waterborne diseases, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) intensified enforcement drives in Behrampura and Lambha wards this week, targeting unhygienic food outlets and littering hotspots in the South Zone.
The AMC's estate department took action against units selling unhygienic panipuri and littering. During a joint drive involving the health department, solid waste management department and estate department, officials inspected 64 units.
Six panipuri carts were seized and penalties worth Rs 37,000 were recovered. Officials also destroyed 10 kg of inedible food items and 17 litres of unfit liquid found during the inspections.
The South Zone solid waste management department has collected Rs 21 lakh in fines from units operating in vegetable markets, commercial complexes and food markets for failing to keep dustbins and causing public litter.
