SIMI man attended terror camp in Afghanistan
Ahmedabad/Surat: The grave mistake of keeping the 'sharati jaamin register ' (conditional bail register) under heaps of other records has come back to haunt Gujarat police. It was this register which had details of meeting of SIMI activists in Surat in 2001, 123 members of which had been nabbed. And, one of them had even confessed to attending terrorist camps in Afghanistan and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir .

These accused were let off on conditional bail but they never turned up at their respective police stations.
However, it is during interrogation by Surat police in 2001 that Mohammed Rafiq Ismail Dadu of Modasa had admitted to attending terror camps organised in Afghanistan. TOI investigation revealed that Dadu's name does even not find a place in the conditional bail register. "We have no such entry ," said an official at Modasa town police station. Similarly, Mohammed Arif Iqbal Kagzi of Ahmedabad who had told the police that he was responsible for furnishing detailed report of SIMI's progress to other organizations, was never kept under watch after he was released on conditional bail.
