, owner of Shrey Hospital where eight persons lost their lives in a major fire on August 6.

Police officers said that they detained Mahant and sent him for Covid-19 test as present medico-legal protocol.

DCP zone-1, Ravindra Patel said that they have registered an FIR against Mahant and other unknown persons for causing negligence which caused the fatalities.

"We have found that the hospital was being run without FIR NOC, no proper arrangements were done to deal with the fire and their staff were not trained to deal with the fire tragedy," said Patel claiming that the FIR was registered on Monday after obtaining reports of FSL, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and electricity officers.

Patel said that Mahant was booked under IPC Sections 304-A (causing death by negligence), 336 (act endangering life or personal safety), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life) along with other charges.

Eight innocent lives were lost by asphyxiation in the Shrey Hospital ICU fire incident.

Patel said that if negligence of other people and agencies surface during investigation, then other persons will be booked during course of inquiry.

The state government had also formed an inquiry committee to probe into the incident.
