AHMEDABAD: Sadhvi Jaishree Giri was sent to Civil Hospital by the metropolitan court on Wednesday after she complained of custodial torture by city police.
As the sadhvi was produced in court while the cops sought her remand for 10 days, she told the magistrate in submitted in writing how she was beaten by police personnel at the behest of an inspector in the city crime branch.
The additional chief metropolitan magistrate ordered the cops to take the sadhvi to hospital for a check-up and then send her to judicial custody. The court decided to hear the remand application on Thursday afternoon, after it receives the medical report.
The sadhvi was produced in court after her arrest, near Udaipur. She had jumped bail granted temporarily by Gujarat high court when the police personnel deployed to escort her were watching a film.
The sadhvi was arrested on charges of cheating and criminal intimidation.
