GANDHINAGAR: Former Gujarat chief minister
Shankersinh Vaghela has been appointed president of the Gujarat unit of the
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). He replaces Jayant Patel as the party's state chief. When Vaghela joined the NCP before the general elections earlier this year he had been appointed national general secretary.
Vaghela said that after considering his long experience in Gujarat, the NCP appointed him to revive and expand the party in the state.
"My priority will be to fight the BJP with all my might and raise the people's issues. I will focus on enrolling more youth in the party," Vaghela said. He added that the NCP will independently contest the coming Junagadh Municipal Corporation election as well as assembly bypolls.
