Second phase of CBSE Class 10 exams to begin from May 15

Ahmedabad: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced the schedule for the second phase of its "two board examination policy" for Class 10 students, with exams set to begin from May 15. Under the revised system, students who are dissatisfied with their first-phase results can reappear for up to three subjects to enhance their scores. Those placed in the compartment category are also eligible to take the second-phase examination. CBSE declared the results of the first phase on April 15.This year, approximately 24.71 lakh students appeared for the Class 10 examinations across the country. Of these, around 23.16 lakh cleared the exams, while 1.55 lakh students did not pass.In Gujarat, a total of 45,107 students appeared for the examination. Among them, 43,576 students passed, while about 1,531 students failed, making them eligible for improvement or compartment exams under the new policy.A key feature of the policy is the flexibility provided in mathematics. Students who opted for standard mathematics in the main examination can switch to basic mathematics in the second attempt, and vice versa, allowing them to choose a level that better suits their capabilities.However, unlike the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB), which permits improvement in all subjects, CBSE has restricted the improvement option to a maximum of three subjects.
