AHMEDABAD: On Monday, a doctor from Satellite lodged a complaint with Cybercrime police, alleging that four persons defrauded him of Rs 36.50 lakh by falsely promising lucrative returns on investments in an online currency trading firm.

Ravi Chauhan, a 34-year-old resident of Vraj Apartments on Jodhpur Gaam Road in Satellite, stated that he received a call on January 17 from an unidentified individual who attempted to persuade him to invest in a firm called Citi FX, promising substantial returns from online currency trading.

Chauhan declined the offer. On February 15, one Suresh Kumar contacted him and provided details and a brochure of the Citi FX firm located in Saket, New Delhi.

Convinced, Chauhan shared his PAN card and Aadhaar card, with Kumar. He then began sending money as instructed. Between February 18 and March 20, he ended up paying a total of Rs 36.50 lakh. Afterwards, all four individuals who had been in contact with Chauhan ceased communication.
