AHMEDABAD: The man who forced five of a farmer-family to attempt suicide is now on the run. Investigators in the Sanand family attempted-suicide case have now started hunting for the main accused,
Vikram Solanki, who has gone missing.
Officials have also asked the family members to furnish documents supporting their claim on the plot of land that Solanki sold on the sly.
Sandeep Singh, superintendent of police, Ahmedabad rural, said teams have been formed to track down the accused. "We got to know that Solanki, a relative of the victim family, was booked in a couple of incidents in the past involving assault and cheating. Search for him has been initiated," he said.
Investigators said that statements of the three victims have been recorded. "Other two family members are not yet in a condition to make statements. A complaint against Solanki will be filed after we get all the statements. We have asked the family members to get us some more details about the land deals so that we can retrieve the records from offices concerned," said MM Malek, deputy superintendent of police of Ahmedabad rural and a member of special investigation team (SIT) in land disputes. Singh added: "We believe they might not have approached police as it was a family matter. However, we are determined to get the case resolved. We are also studying the suicide note to get more names."
Five members of the family, including two women, tried to commit suicide at Dodar village near Sanand on Monday. Their suicide note accused Solanki of duping them and selling their land which is now worth Rs 4.2 crore. Mansang Sindhava, his sons Kalubhai and Hamirbhai and daughters-in-law Jatanben and Leelaben, all residents of Kundal village, consumed pesticide at Solanki's residence. This was after Solanki refused to give back their land documents.
The family members, who are admitted to VS Hospital, are out of danger.
