AHMEDABAD: A police sub-inspector of Amraiwadi, Mavsinh Solanki, and his accomplice Babu Rawal were caught while taking bribe by Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths at Amraiwadi police station on Wednesday morning.
The duo was arrested while accepting bribe from the relatives of a man accused of selling illicit liquor.
Crime branch had held two persons in connection with a prohibition case.
The accused were later handed over to Amraiwadi police for further investigations. Amraiwadi police station officials arrested another accused in this case, Sonu Sharma, a resident of Ajay Tenament in Amraiwadi.
Solanki, the police sub-inspector of surveillance, called Sonu's father Omprakash Sharma to the police station. Solanki demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 to prevent any further embarrassment for the Sharma family. Omprakash had then contacted the ACB officials.
ACB sleuths laid a trap as Omprakash went to meet Solanki with government witnesses on Wednesday. Solanki asked Omprakash to hand over the bribe money to Rawal who was sitting in the first floor of the police station. Omprakash then handed over the money and Rawal was arrested red-handed. Solanki too was placed under arrest on the basis of evidence provided by government witness.
