Row over age relaxation in GU’s hiring process
Ahmedabad: A new controversy has emerged in the ongoing recruitment process at Gujarat University. The latest issue concerns the alleged denial of age relaxation benefits to candidates from reserved categories. The university invited applications for seven senior clerk positions. According to the recruitment notification, the maximum age limit for women from both general and reserved categories was fixed at 40 years. However, after the application process began, the university reportedly increased the age limit for women candidates in the general category from 40 to 45 years. However, no such relaxation was granted to women candidates from reserved categories.NSUI national coordinator Bhavik Solanki raised the issue with the university administration. According to him, if the age limit for women in the general category had been increased to 45 years, then women candidates from reserved categories should also have been given equal relaxation, raising their upper age limit to 50 years as per norms.Solanki alleged that the selective relaxation may have been introduced to favour certain candidates.
He also pointed out that no age relaxation was provided for women candidates in the recruitment for 17 other posts.NSUI warned that the matter will be raised in the Gujarat assembly and a formal complaint will be submitted to the governor. The organization also announced that reserved category women candidates will submit a representation to the university administration on Thursday.
