AHMEDABAD: Taking advantage of the city police’s drive to enforce the use of helmets by two-wheeler riders, three persons, Adilkhan Pathan (24), Saifali Shaikh (22) and Naeem Pathan (20), all residents of Danilimda, pretended to be cops and began flagging down two-wheeler riders. They would ask for vehicle documents and if the commuter was found wanting, they would extort money from them. On Friday, the accused stopped one Nishant Kalavadia (21) of Isanpur on the riverfront road and asked him for his motorcycle papers.“While the accused and Nishant were arguing, police inspector M A Singh, who was on patrol duty, spotted the interaction,” said a police source. “When we approached the spot, the three accused tried to flee on a motorcycle, but we intercepted them,” said Inspector Singh of Sabarmati riverfront police.Senior police officers said people should check if the person flagging them down are traffic cops and the first thing they should notice is whether they are in uniform or not.
