Rajasthan hospital receives essentiality certificate from Gujarat government for medical college
AHMEDABAD: Rajasthan hospital, managed by a charitable trust in Ahmedabad, has received an Essentiality Certificate (EC) from the health & family welfare department of the Gujarat government to establish a medical college. With this, the trust has initiated the process of setting up the Gujarat Medical College and Research Centre in Ahmedabad.
P.R. Kankariya, chairman of Rajasthan hospital, said, “After extensive discussions and deliberations, the Members of the Trust decided to establish a medical college equipped with advanced facilities and a humane approach to improving medical services and education in Gujarat. The proposed name for this institution is 'Gujarat Medical College and Research Centre'. Initially, it will have a capacity of 50 MBBS seats, which will later be increased to 100 seats. Additionally, postgraduate courses such as MD and MS will also be introduced at the college in the coming years.”
Mahendra Shah, secretary of Rajasthan hospital, said, “This college will be established following the Greenfield model, in line with the Public-Private Partnership standards outlined in the Gujarat government's special 'Health Policy - 2016'. We received the 'Consent of Affiliation' from Gujarat University. Subsequently, a high-level team from the health department of the government of Gujarat conducted a thorough examination to ensure that the arrangements complied with the government’s norms. Based on their findings, the Gujarat government granted the necessary certificate for the establishment of the college. Following this approval, the trust has now completed the application process to seek approval from the National Medical Commission, Delhi.”
According to officials, the college will provide state-of-the-art facilities, including modern lecture halls, a library, smart teaching rooms, a museum, a dissection hall, a skill laboratory, and more. The trust is also setting up a new hospital campus at a cost of approximately Rs 100 crore.
