Quacks doctor A-Z for degrees

As many as 100 quacks have already been detained, but others have downed the shutters of their 'hospitals' soon after the raids.

SURAT: DEHMF, MBESGBES, JDESMS, DES, MSMS and SEMSIMS. In case you are wondering what these alphabets mean then stop doing so because they mean nothing and at the same time mean a lot for the quacks, who have them on their nameplates in order to impress gullible patients.
Not just quacks, even alphabets mentioning such degrees were seized by Surat Municipal Corporation officials who, along with police, carried out a drive to check the rampant illegal medical practice in the city.
As many as 100 quacks have already been detained, but others have downed the shutters of their 'hospitals' soon after the raids. Among those arrested was Dr Somnath Panigrahi from Ramnagar who has a DEHMF degree.
Utpal Rai practising near New Water Tank in Pal has a MBESGBES degree. Pallapuri S was running a clinic in Jawahar Nagar slums with the nameplate proudly proclaiming a JDESMS degree.

Similarly, T Vishwas from Ramnagar possessed a DES degree while Pravin Desai had mentioned MSMS as qualification under his name at his clinic and SEMSIMS degree is what makes BK Patnaik practise medicine.
Similarly, DMMS and AIRMS are the so-called degrees of Vinod Makwana and B Sarkar of Mahendra clinic. Dr Arvind Panwar of New Civil Hospital said, "The illegal medical business flourishes mostly in the areas where the literacy level is low.

These quacks have their own syndicate and patients are often sent from one 'expert' to another so that the patient feels that they are being given due importance." These doctors do not hesitate in even conducting minor surgeries.
During the raids on Thursday, the SMC officials were shocked when they came to know that the person who was treating the patients in Limbayat area was a dummy quack.
"The person who was treating the patient was the brother of a quack. The quack was actually out of station," said an official.
