PSI suicide case: DySP gets clean chit
AHMEDABAD: In the controversial case involving the suicide of PSI Satyendra Rathod, the crime branch threw a surprise by registering a case against his brother-in-law Ashok Chauhan, holding him responsible for providing the licenced
Nevertheless, the city crime branch has given a clean chit to DySP N P Patel of Karai Police Training Academy against whom Rathod and his family members had levelled allegations of indecent demands and harassment. Rathod was a gold medallist from the academy and his suicide due to alleged duty-related harassment, raised many eyebrows. Patel was summoned once by the crime branch to record his statement. Rathod, who is survived by his wife and 3-year-old daughter, was son of a class I retired officer of education department.
“In December, he was found dead in his room. Sola police sources said he had committed suicide by shooting himself with his brother-in-law Ashok Chauhan’s revolver. Two suicide notes were found from the room in which Rathod had alleged harassment from the DySP,” added a police source.
Rathod’s family alleged that Rathod used to tell his wife that he is being asked for indecent favours from the DySP and was depressed. The case was first lodged at Sola police station and later when questions on the probe were raised, it was transferred to the city crime branch.
“The city crime branch, which is probing the case, has said that the evidence gathered till date is not enough to prove that DySP had put any indecent demand. This is like giving a clean chit to someone whose name is written in the suicide note which is believed to be the dying declaration of the deceased,” said a close family member of Rathod. Investigation officer of the case said that an FIR has been registered against Ashok Chauhan with whose licenced revolver Rathod had committed suicide. “Rathod had told his brother-in-law, who works in a private firm, that his superior wanted to purchase one
