Protest padyatra will be flagged off by Valmiki girl

AHMEDABAD: A Padyatra from Ahmedabad to Una organized by the dalit rights forum 'Una Dalit Atyachar Ladat Samiti' (UDALS) will be flagged off by a girl belonging to Valmiki community, said convener of the forum. The Padyatra will begin from Ahmedabad on August 5 and conclude at Una in Gir-Somnath district on August 15. The yatra will pass through villages of Ahmedabad, Botad and Amreli districts .
On Independence day, the flag hoisting event will be conducted at Una town, said Kaushik Parmar, member of UDALS, adding that the Tricolour will also be hoisted by a girl from Valmiki community.
"A Valmiki community girl will flag off the Padyatra and Tricolour will also be hoisted by a girl from the same community. They are the most suppressed class and this is an attempt to give them social freedom," Jignesh Mevani, Convener of UDALS, said. tnn
