GANDHINAGAR: Four IPS officers of Gujarat along with two PIs, one PSI, two head constables and two police constables received the President’s Police Medal.
This apart, Gandhinagar DSP R B Brahmbhatt received the President’s Gallantry Police Medal for his services during the terrorist attack on Akshardham temple in Gandhinagar in September 2002. Sharing the glory with Brambhatt are Arjunsinh L Gameti and Allahrakha Hajibhai Unnadjam.
Both were armed police constables and were killed while fighting the terrorists holed up in the temple.
Apart from them, armed police inspector S R Yadav, armed ASI Jayantibhai K Jadhav, armed head constable Savalsingh Meharchand Yadav, armed head constable Hariram Choturam Ahir, armed police constable Dilipbhai Dhuljibhai Bhalat were awarded gallantry police medals for showing exemplary courage.
The other recipients of the President’s Police Medal are Rajkot police commissioner Sanjay Srivastava, DIGP (Ahmedabad Range) A K Sharma, Banaskantha superintendent of police C R Parmar and Navsari superintendent of police A K Jadeja. Police inspector (Kheda) P U Raval, PI (Patan) L J Merujaya, SRP (Group IX, Vadodara) armed PSI K H Rajput, head constable (Ahmedabad city) N B Saiyed, head constable (Ahmedabad city) M N Vyas, constable (Bharuch) Y A Patel and constable (Gandhinagar division) V S Raval were the others who received the police medals.
