AHMEDABAD: Tourists and visitors will be able to avail of a prepaid autorickshaw by the middle of January from the Ahmedabad airport, thanks to joint efforts of the state government, the airport authority and voluntary organisation. The service, G-Auto, is the brainchild of IIM-A alumnus Nirmal Kumar through his NGO called Nirmal Foundation.
It aims to provide a reliable autorickshaw service with added facilities like newspapers, mobile chargers and drivers who can speak English.
Said airport director Anuj Agrawal, "The initiative came from the state government. The idea is to provide an organised autorickshaw service to passengers so that they pay the right fare and get proper and polite service from trained drivers." A prepaid booth for the new service will be set up towards the arrival side of the domestic terminal.
"The booth will be ready by January 15 and the service will begin around that time," said Agrawal. To begin with, G-Auto will keep 25 autorickshaws each for the day shift and the night shift. "The drivers will wear uniform so that they can be identified easily. We have been continuously training the drivers of G-Auto on how to speak English and manners," said Kumar. G-Auto will also provide a facility to book the auto on the phone in advance so that when the passengers arrive, an auto will be waiting for them.
