Phone found in Sabarmati Central Jail

Ahmedabad: Two days after seizing 28 grams of ganja from an inmate, police have now found a cellphone from three undertrials lodged in Sabarmati Central Jail on Thursday. Mohsin Khan, the in-charge jailer, stated in his FIR with Ranip police that a cellphone without a battery inside was recovered from three undertrials named Abdul Shaikh, Abdul Pathan and Samir Pandya. The device was found during a surprise check conducted by the jail squad. The cops will now probe how the cellphone was smuggled into the jail and if the inmates had used it for any illegal activity. Ranip police registered a complaint of violation of notification prohibiting the use of cellphone in the jail and abetment under the IPC and the Prisoners Act. On Tuesday, seven small packets of ganja weighing around 28 grams were found in the possession of an inmate named Javed Pathan. Pathan, 36, a resident of Juhapura, had got the ganja from his friend who was lodged in the jail with him during a court production on Tuesday. In March, a convict named Akram Shaikh, lodged in the Sabarmati jail, was also booked for possessing 58 grams of ganja.
