Ahmedabad: Sector 21 police of Gandhinagar on Saturday filed a complaint of abetment to suicide against a PhD scholar of Central University of Gujarat (CUG) in the capital town in connection with a case of suicide of a student on November 25, 2022.
The deceased
Sachin Chauhan, 27, from
Haryana had completed his master's in English from the CUG and was preparing for UGC NET exam for the post of assistant professor or junior researcher, said Ravindra Chauhan, the deceased's cousin who has been doing MA (Hindi) from the CUG.
Ravindra said in his complaint that his brother was staying in the hostel of CUG and he used to complaint about a girl's harassment.
"My brother told me many times that a girl named Bandita, who hails from Odisha, used to harass him a lot. She had even slapped him on November 21 and threatened to kill her over a dispute of some academic issue," stated the FIR.
Ravindra said in the FIR that even her brother and their mother called up Sachin and threatened him with dire consequences. They threatened to spoil his career and implicate him in some false case.
Aggrieved with this, Sachin hanged himself to death in his room on November 25, said Ravindra, adding that he had also written a suicide note in which he mentioned harassment by Bandita and her family members.
Ravindra said that as he was busy with the post-death rituals of his brother, he could not approach police earlier.
