On Friday, president of the parents’ association, Dr Kanu Patel, was detained when he tried to forcibly enter the secretariat. Patel was detained and taken to Chiloda. Around 20 other protesters were stopped from entering the secretariat.

The protest so far was being organized by parents only. However, it took a political turn with the Congress and the Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) leaders also joining the protest. Earlier this week, the Congress had handed over a memorandum to the Governor demanding separate merit lists and, on Friday, gave memorandums to collectors.

PAAS convener Hardik Patel had addressed protesting Gujarati-medium students at Lal Darwaja on Thursday. On Friday, some other leaders of the Patidar organisation also joined the protesting parents in Gandhinagar.

Meanwhile, a group of English-medium students of GSHSEB have come out in protest against the effort of Gujarati-medium students to put pressure on the state government for bringing an ordinance exempting the state’s students from NEET. Parents of English-medium students have also threatened to launch an agitation.
