Over 85,000 candidates from Gujarat set for NEET-UG on May 3, Sunday
Ahmedabad: Over 23 lakh candidates have registered nationwide, including more than 85,000 students from Gujarat, are set to appear for the NEET undergraduate 2026 exam to be held on Sunday. The entrance test is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admissions to undergraduate medical and dental courses across the country.According to official information, the exam will be held across 552 cities in India and 14 international locations. In Gujarat, the test will be conducted in 31 cities, including major centres such as Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Gandhinagar, Godhra and Amreli. Around 12,000 students from Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar alone are expected to appear, with arrangements made across nearly 30 buildings. The NEET-UG exam will take place from 2pm to 5pm. Candidates have been advised to reach their respective exam centres well in advance to avoid last-minute issues. Entry to the centres will begin at 11am and close strictly at 1.30pm, after which no candidate will be allowed inside under any circumstances. The exam consists of 180 questions carrying a total of 720 marks. Each correct answer awards four marks, while one mark is deducted for every incorrect response. Experts advise students to avoid guessing answers they are unsure about due to the negative marking scheme. The registration process for NEET-UG began on Feb 7 and concluded on March 7. Admit cards were released on May 1, following the completion of document verification and centre allocation. The results are expected to be announced around June 14.To ensure smooth conduct, the NTA has made it mandatory for candidates to carry their admit card along with a valid photo identification proof. Students have also been urged to plan their travel in advance, keeping in mind possible traffic issues and weather conditions, including forecasts of rain or storms in some regions.Notably, this year all exam centres have been set up only in govt and grant-in-aid institutions, with no private institutions being used.
