AHMEDABAD: It comes as a shocker but there are 766 positions lying vacant in the granted arts, science, commerce and technical colleges in the state which have not been filled since the past 10 years. College managements say that these positions include technical positions like laboratory assistant, laboratory instructor, physical education instructor, librarians and store keepers.
"Due to lack of laboratory assistants and instructors, practical work and research in science and technical colleges are suffering majorly", said a principal of a technical college.
Similarly, while the state is celebrating festivals like 'Vaanche Gujarat', there are no librarians to assist students towards books in college libraries. "Festivals like Khel Mahakumbh attract lot of attention but there are no physical education instructors in the colleges", said another college principal.
Spokesperson of
Congress and former
Gujarat University syndicate member said that the state government should pay attention to filling the vacant positions in the college so as to improve the quality of education in the institutions.
