One arrested in Rs 1.5k cr fake billing scam

AHMEDABAD: One person from Bhavnagar was arrested by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch in the Rs 1,500 crore bogus billing scam.
The accused has been identified as Nayeem Lakhani, a 26-year-old working with Altaf Sakarwala, Shabbir Ali and Hanif to use bogus GST registrations and obtain input tax credit (ITC). The four accused used to operate from a hotel room in Bhavnagar.
“Lakhani was arrested on Saturday and sent to judicial custody.He was working with Sakarwala since 2019, but they recently separated following some financial dispute,” said a police officer privy to the development. tnn
