AHMEDABAD: The
Adani Group's unique corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative for talented children from economically backward families -- the Adani Vidya Mandir -- was inaugurated on Monday by Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
Talking on the occasion, Modi termed the school as a new model of education which would give opportunity to talented children of economically backward people.
Top bureaucrats, representatives of Gujarat-based companies and prominent figures in the field of education were present during the inauguration of the school.
Priti Adani, managing trustee of Adani Foundation, which has developed the school, said her organization was committed to supporting academically accomplished students from economically challenged families. She said that to maintain the quality of education, there would be one teacher for every 16 students in the school.
Educationist NV Vasani, who played a crucial role in developing the school, said some 300 students are studying in the school at present. When the campus becomes fully functionally, it will have some 1,200 students.
He added that interest of students had been kept in mind and facilities were created accordingly. The campus has everything from facilities for art and craft, music and literature to adequate facilities for sports. The teachers are also working on ensuring that there is a smooth transition of the students from Gujarati medium to English medium.
