NHRC receives 115 healthcare-related complaints from Gujarat

AHMEDABAD: At a time when Gujarat is being touted as a medical tourism hub, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has received 115 complaints related to healthcare services from Gujarat in the past 18 months.
“From April 2014 to September 2015, we've received 115 healthcare complaints from Gujarat, of which 107 have been addressed,” said Anil Kumar Parashar, joint registrar (law) and focal point, Human Rights Defenders, NHRC.
He was addressing a press conference to announce a two-day western regional public hearing on the right to healthcare, at the office of city-based NGO AWAG on Monday.
In association with Union health ministry, NHRC and Jan Swasthya Abhiyan will organize a two-day western regional public hearing on the right to healthcare in Mumbai from November 19. During the hearing, people who have been denied their right to healthcare from a public health facility will be heard by a panel comprising NHRC members and health experts in presence of state health officials.
Parashar, also a Jan Swasthya Abhiyan member, said, “They had also received 41 complaints related to healthcare services between April 2012 and March 2014.”
