New panel to plan Narmada yatra, utsav

GANDHINAGAR: The Gujarat government on Tuesday announced the formation of three committees of ministers and officers, under the chairmanship of deputy chief minister Nitin Patel, to plan and organize Narmada yatra and utsav, to mark the completion of work on the Narmada dam. The committees will look after state and district-level planning and other features of the event. Most ministers and about a dozen top IAS officers have been appointed to the different committees.

The yatra will be likely be take a week or two, mainly covering Saurashtra and other command areas of the Narmada dam. The Gujarat government has written to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) seeking a date for the valedictory function, which will most likely be held at the Narmada dam site in August.
