Nat’l ranking TT: Gujarat’s Malav bows out in quarters

Ahmedabad: Gujarat’s Malav Panchal’s incredible run in the youth boys (U-13) category was halted in the quarterfinals where lost to J&K’s Ritvik Gupta. The 3-0 defeat ended Malav’s journey in the National Ranking Table Tennis Championship 2022 in Vadodara on Tuesday.Ahmedabad boy Malav, 12, was the last Gujarat paddler left in the main draw after Samarth Shekhawat, Manav Mehta, Daniya Godil, Jiya Trivedi and Mouboni Chatterjee lost in the pre-quarterfinals.In the under-15 category, Gujarat’s Aayush Tanna, Himansh Dahiya, Pratha Pawar, Riya Jayswal, Mouboni Chatterjee, Jiya Trivedi and Nidhi Prajapati went through the grind to make it to the main draw of the boys and girls’ but only Surat’s Aayush and Ahmedabad’s Pratha managed to get past the Round of 64.While Aayush thumped Tanish Pendse 11-3,11-6,11-7 to book his Round of 32 berth, Pratha earned a hard-fought win over with Ditsa Roy (BEN A).UP’s Veer Balmiki won the boys U-11 title, beating Prateek Tulsani (MAHA B). Saturya Banerjee (BEN A) defeated Tanishka Kalbhairav (KAR)for the girls’ U-11 title. The under-13 boys’ crown was won by PSPB ‘A’ paddler Sahil Rawat.Final results: Youth Boys (U-11): Veer Balmiki (UP) bt Prateek Tulsani (MAHA B) 11-4, 11-4,11-8; Youth Girls (U-11): Saturya Banerjee (BEN A) bt Tanishka Kalbhairav (KAR) 12-10,11-8,6-11,12-10; Youth Boys (U-13) Sahil Rawat (PSPB A) bt Aditya Das (BEN A) 11-3, 11-8, 11-7.
